If your skin has started to look less smooth than it used to, with acne scars that never fully faded, pores that seem bigger, or fine lines that makeup settles into, microneedling is often one of the first treatments worth considering. Here is what it is, what a session feels like, and what kind of results are realistic.
What microneedling actually does
Microneedling uses a device with very fine needles to make thousands of tiny, controlled channels in the skin. Your skin treats these as small injuries and starts repairing itself, producing fresh collagen and elastin. That is why results build gradually: you are not adding anything to the skin so much as prompting it to rebuild.
The channels also let serums go deeper than anything you apply at home. At Blessed Beauty Boutique we offer regenerative microneedling, which pairs the treatment with growth factors, including platelet-rich plasma (PRP) prepared from a small sample of your own blood, to give the healing process extra support.
Who it is good for
Microneedling is a strong choice if you are concerned about:
- Acne scarring, especially shallow, rolling scars
- Rough or uneven texture
- Enlarged-looking pores
- Fine lines, particularly around the eyes and mouth
- Dullness or skin that has lost its bounce
It suits most skin types and tones. It may not be right for you if you have active acne or a skin infection in the area, are pregnant, have recently used isotretinoin, or tend to form keloid scars. Your provider will go over this with you at your consultation.
What a session is like
First, numbing cream goes on for about 20 to 30 minutes. Most people then describe the treatment as a light vibration and pressure rather than pain. The microneedling itself takes about 30 minutes for the face, and the whole appointment usually runs about an hour.
Afterwards, your skin will look pink to red, a bit like a mild sunburn. For most people this settles within one to three days. You will go home with written aftercare: keep your skin clean, skip makeup and workouts for the rest of the day, and protect it from the sun.
How many sessions you will need
Most people do best with a series of three to six sessions, spaced about four to six weeks apart. General texture and glow usually need fewer; deeper acne scarring usually needs more. Your provider will agree on a plan with you before you start.
When you will see results
Many patients notice a fresher look within a week or two. The bigger changes come from new collagen, which takes time, so skin keeps improving for about three months after each session. Your results at three months will look quite different from your results at one week, and that slow, steady change is what keeps the result natural.
A note for Phoenix skin
Our sun is strong almost all year, and freshly treated skin is more sensitive to it. Daily sunscreen matters most in the week after each session, and it also helps protect the collagen you are building. Many patients schedule their series for the cooler months, though with good sun protection microneedling can be done any time of year.
Microneedling vs. other options
- Chemical peels work on the surface and are better for pigmentation and dullness.
- ProCell microchanneling works on a similar principle, with a different device and a growth-factor serum.
- XERF skin tightening is the better choice when the main concern is loose skin rather than texture.
Many patients combine these over time, and your provider can help you decide where to start.
